Bergen has received a $3.2 million Title V Grant which will fund an intensive five-year, institution-wide program to improve student academic success and retention. Title V Grants are provided to Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students. The HSI Program Grants also enable HSIs to expand and enhance their academic offerings, program quality and institutional stability.
At Bergen Community College, these funds have been utilized to support the 1-2-3 Connect: An intervention campaign for enhancing student engagement and retention during the students' first three semesters at Bergen Community College (BCC).
The 1-2-3 Connect Program has develop new curricula and teaching approaches in basic courses such as: a first-year experience - Success 101, English basic skills, basic mathematics and other areas to help students successfully transition into BCC and to complete their degree according to a personalized academic plan.
