By utilizing the latest technological and advisement resources, students can connect with a faculty mentor anytime of the day through Personal Online and Offline Discussions, also referred to as "PODS."PODs are theme-based, i.e., by major, by special interest, by student group, etc. Mentors can host POD sessions through on-campus meetings; online through WebCT, the College's web-based course management tool and social networking sites like Facebook; or through hybrid sessions, using both online resources and on-campus meetings.

1. How many credits do I earn for registering for a POD?

PODs are non-credit mentor relationships with a faculty member of the college. The goal of joining a POD is to gain knowledge from a professional in your area of interest.

2. How much does it cost to join a POD?

There are no costs associated with joining a POD.

3. What PODs are available?How do I join?

To see the available PODs and to join a POD, please access http://www.bergen.edu/pages/6026.asp and follow the instructions.

4. Are the PODs available to everyone?

Yes, the PODs are available to every student of Bergen Community College, however, there is a limit to the number of students who can join a POD, so sign up early.

5. Who are the POD mentors?

The mentors are full-time, tenure-track faculty members of Bergen Community College who have chosen to serve as a mentor to a group of students, focusing on a specific theme. They have expertise in their POD areas.

6. Where do I have to go to meet my POD group?

Each professor will decide how they would like to help the students in their POD. PODmentoring may occuras one-on-one sessions in his/her office;as group meetings; via email; via social networking sites like Facebook; or through WebCT, the College's web-based course management tool.

7.How often doI have to meet with my POD group?

This is a tough question. A simple answer is, "As long as you feel you have a need for assistance." The more involved you are with the POD, the better your experience should be at Bergen and beyond Bergen. By developing a strong relationship with your mentor, you will learn more about your fieldor area of interest, leading to possible internships, certifications, jobs, connections with people working or teaching in the field, etc. As the saying goes, "You get what you put into it."

8. I have registered for a POD, now what?

You will be contacted by the faculty mentor, and told how to proceed.
