What are the admissions requirements for this program?
A new group of students will begin the professional component of the program each year in the spring semester.Due to space limitations in clinical training, it may be necessary to select students on a competitive basis. The minimum requirements for entrance into the professional component are:
Successful completion of all remediation required as a result of BCC’s College Placement Test.
Successful completion of the following pre-professional courses with a grade of "C" or better:
Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology I
Introductory Chemistry
English Composition I
Introduction to Veterinary Technology
Veterinary Medical Terminology
Submission of a letter of intent to progress in the professional component of the program.
Submission of an autobiography, as described below:
Candidates for progression will be selected during the fall semester preceding entrance into the professional segment of the program. Those students who are registered for and attending some or all of the above pre-professional courses, but have not yet received a final grade, may apply for progression providing they meet all other requirements for admission. If selected, admission will be provisional pending successful completion of all pre-professional coursework.
Students are advised that meeting the minimum requirements for progression does not guarantee a seat in the professional component.Criteria for selection include G.P.A., past academic achievement in the sciences, number of credits already completed towards the degree, communication skills, as demonstrated in the writing sample, and completion of the recommended veterinary facility observation as noted below.
To apply for admission to the professional component of the program candidates must:
Submit unofficial transcripts (if this is not the student's first semester), and mid-term grades by October 1st of the year admission is sought.
Submit a 2-3 page autobiography, indicating past achievements and future career and personal goals.
Practical experience in a veterinary facility is highly recommended for admission to the Veterinary Technology program.Students should attempt to complete 24 hours or more of observation prior to submitting an application to the program.Proof of observation in the form of a letter signed by a veterinarian is required. In addition, consultation with practicing veterinary technicians is strongly advised.
