What should I know about the academic course of study for Veterinary Technology?

There is both a pre-professional and a professional course of study within the veterinary technology program. The pre-professional part of the program is open to anyone who wishes to enroll in the pre-requisite courses required for admission. Students must either be currently enrolled in the pre-requisite courses or have taken and passed the course with a minimum of a “c” grade in order to be eligible to enroll. Once admitted into the professional part of the program, the curriculum offers a combination of general education courses and professional core courses in veterinary technology. The professional courses consist of classroom learning and clinical opportunities with large, small, and exotic animals, culminating in an externship experience in a veterinary practice, research facility, or other comparable facility. Instruction will be provided by practicing veterinarians and professionals working in the field. The technical courses in professional components of the program may be taught at a variety of locations or by distance learning methodologies such as WebCT. Technical courses may be taught at clinical sites throughout New Jersey.
