Introduction to Teaching 24 hour Pre-Service
The New Jersey Department of Education recently approved The Introduction to Teaching 24 Hour Pre-service Program that Bergen Community College offers in partnership with New Jersey City University, and participating NJ Community Colleges.
"Introduction to Teaching is a new requirement from the New Jersey Department of Education for everyone who applies for a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) and enrolls in an alternate route teacher certification program" for K-12 Instructional CE's ONLY.
It is a non-credit course with 20 hours of class work and 4 hours of classroom observation. You must complete all 20 hours in order to receive a certificate of completion. DO NOT ENROLL IF YOU KNOW YOU WILL MISS CLASS(ES). All classroom observations must occur in the intended area of one’s CE.
Upon the completion of the course, students receive a certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education, which must be included in their applications for Certificates of Eligibility.
Tuition for this course is $200.
In order to participate in this program, the candidate must minimally:- Hold a bachelor or master's degree with degree conferral noted on official transcripts from a regionally accredited four year college or university
- Possess a 2.50 GPA when a 4.00 equals an "A" for degrees conferred 8/31/04 or earlier or possess a 2.75 GPA when a 4.00 equals an "A" for degrees conferred 9/1/04 or later
