Resources for EBS Faculty

About the Basic Skills Placement Test

BCC Online Writing Lab (OWL)

The Learning Assistance Centeris comprised of:

1. The BCC Writing Center
The Writing Center is a resource for student writers at all levels, from EBS to honors English. You may use this formto refer students to the Learning Assistance Center (L-125) for help with their writing. Tutors can help students most effectively when a student’s draft has not been already copyedited or proofread by their professor. Tutors are trained to help students identify patterns of error in their own drafts, and will help students learn to become better editors of their own writing. You may wish to provide students with a copy of this brochureabout the Writing Center before they visit. If you’d like a tutor to come to your class to speak to them about our services, contact the Miriam Pollock, the Writing Center Supervisor, at mpollock@bergen.edu.

2. The Tutoring Center
You may wish to direct your students to onlin tutoring through Smarthinking. Any registered student may use this service for free. See this page for more about Smarthinking.

3. The English Language Resource Center (ELRC)
