Distance Learning--How to Find an Article

The Sidney Silverman Library subscribes to many databases (periodical indexes) that provide access to articles in newspapers, magazines and journals. (Most are available full text.)

Begin your research with one of these databases. They are found on the Library’s homepage (www.bergen.edu/library). Under Find Articles / Electronic Resources select from:

  • Frequently Used Databases (general) which cover a broad range of subjects and contain both popular and scholarly articles.
  • Newspapers link takes you to a list where you can choose from the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Record among others.
  • Encyclopedias link allows you to select the Britannica or World Book.
  • Full List of Databases permits you to:
    • sort through them by Title - if you know which database you want to use just go to it.
    • sort them by Subject - if you have a specialized topic to research but are unsure which database is appropriate – Business or Literature, for example.

When you click on the name of the database you will see a screen that asks you for your last name and your seven digit student identification number (this number is found on your BCC id card or any official college document). Once you enter those, the database should open.To view a short demonstration, click here. If you have a problem, please call the Reference Desk at 201-447-7436 during library hours.

If the article you need is not available full-text in any of the Library's databases you may request a copy of it through Interlibrary Loan. Click here for the ILL online form. (Be aware that this process may take up to two weeks.)
For help, call the Reference Desk at 201-447-7436 during library hours or use Ask-a-librarian to email a reference question or ask for assistance.
