Service Learning Recognition EventBergen Community College holds itsService Learning Recognition Event every April. Professors recognize their students, who have successfully completed their Service Learning. in past yearstogether hundreds ofstudentshave beenresponsible forthousands of hours of serviceand have received Certificates of Recognition from Bergen Community College. Opening remarks, by the Academic Vice President, Dr. Gary Porter stress the significance of Service Learning in the development of students, the integration of the college within the community, and the traditional role of higher education , “To create a more informed and involved citizen.” This event is scheduled each spring to honor students who have chosen to make a difference, get involved in the community, and participate in Service Learning. Service Learning is the academic program which gives students the opportunity to service needs in their own communities. Professors guide their students in finding a way to contribute to the community and enhance learning relative to their course work.
