NJIT General Information

General University Requirements:
All NJIT majors are required to complete 17 credits of lower division coursework. The 17 credits must be in the following areas:
NJIT RequirementBCC Equivalent
English Composition6 cr:WRT 101 and WRT 201
Culture & History 6 crAny two General Ed. Humanities from Philosophy, History or Fine Arts
Economics 3 cr:ECO 101
Social Science 3 cr:Choose one of these: ANT 101, ECO 201,
PSY 101, SOC 101
Physical Education 2 cr:Any 2 WEX activities

ARCHITECTURE: Complete the NJIT General University Requirements listed above, while supplementing your studies with the following courses:
PHY 186, PHY 286, MAT 280. MAT 281
Students should take an Art/Design course: (i.e. ART 122 or ART 124).

COMPUTER SCIENCE: Joint Admissions Agreement can be a guide; however, it is currently under review by NJIT.
Follow the Computer Science option (AS.NSM.COMP.SCI) at Bergen Community College. The following courses should be chosen as electives in the degree:

MAT 282 (required at NJIT)
CIS 278 or CIS 287
MAT 286



(Note: Computer language at at NJIT is JAVA. NJIT will require a 1 credit course in JAVA
after you are admitted.

ENGINEERING PROGRAMS
•Liberal Arts Requirements:
Follow “General University Requirements” on other side of this guide.
•Math requirement:
All engineering specialties require:
MAT 280 Calculus I
MAT 281 Calculus II
MAT 282 Calculus III
MAT 283 Differential Equations
•Chemistry requirement:
Electrical Engineering – requires one semester of Chemistry: CHM140/141.
Computer Engineering- requires one semester of Chemistry: CHM 140/141
All other engineering specialties require a year of Chemistry: CHM 140/141 and CHM 240/241.
•Physics requirement:
Electrical Engineering requires PHY 280, PHY290 & 291
All engineering specialties require PHY 280 & PHY 290.
•Computer Science requirement:
Computer Engineering – requires CIS165, CIS 265 & CIS 277.
All other engineering specialties require CIS 165 & CIS 265.

•Drafting requirement:
All engineering specialties require DFT 107 & DFT 208.
