Anticipated Faculty Openings Fall 2012
  
 
Since its founding in 1965, Bergen Community College has been proud of its mix of tradition and innovation in the process of challenging students to raise questions, examine evidence, validate opinions, make decisions, and communicate ideas effectively.  Whether experienced through engaging classroom teaching or through an independent online class, Bergen’s faculty and technological resources are top-notch.  Our extensive fiber-optic and wireless networks covering the library, the classrooms, the information Commons and Smart Classrooms permit e-mail and the Internet to be incorporated into all facets of our curriculum and daily activities. 
 
Successful candidates must be able to teach both day and evening classes, be committed to assessing student success, learning outcomes, assessment and development of new programs/curricula, demonstrate competence in computer-assisted learning technology, especially on-line instruction, and accept assignments at any of our three locations (Paramus, Hackensack and Lyndhurst).  All positions require excellent organizational and communication skills as well as demonstrated scholarship and professional involvement.  Candidates invited for an interview will be required to do a teaching demonstration and present a teaching portfolio.
 
Listed below are our anticipated faculty openings for Fall 2012.
 
Accounting:  (Job Code F-ACCTG)
Required: MBA, Master of Accounting or a related field, with at least 18 graduate hours in accounting.
Preferred: Currently licensed CPA or CMA; undergraduate teaching experience; related business experience. Teaching both day and evening classes may be required.
 
American Sign Language:  (Job Code F-ASL)
Required: Master’s Degree in Deaf Studies, Counseling and Rehabilitation for the Deaf, Teaching of the Deaf, or American Sign Language; at least one year of college level teaching experience; ASL proficiency at the advanced or higher level (SCPI scale); ASLTA certification.
Preferred: Ph.D. or graduate work beyond Masters; work with community college or nontraditional learners; experience with curriculum/program development; New Jersey teacher licensure a plus; documented involvement with the Deaf community a plus.

Biology:  (Job Code F-BIO)
Required:
Master's degree in Biology or closely related field; one year of college level teaching experience. The candidate must participate in curriculum development, assessment and be willing to develop and teach hybrid and online science courses.  Preferred:  A specialization in teaching college level Biology I and II. 

Chemistry:  (Job Code F-CHEM)
Required:
  Master's degree in Chemistry; two years of college level teaching experience (preferably one year at a community college). The candidate must participate in curriculum development, assessment and be willing to develop and teach online science courses.  Preferred:  A specialization in Analytical Chemistry with a focus on Instrumental Methods of Analysis. 

Communication: (Job Code F-COMM)
Required: Master’s in Speech Communication or a related discipline with 18 graduate semester hours in Speech Communication; ability to teach courses in communication such as public, human, interpersonal, small group, and intercultural communication; two years of college level teaching experience in the discipline.  Preferred: Ph.D.; experience teaching online or hybrid courses; experience with community college or nontraditional learners. 
 
English Basic Skills: (Job Code F-EBS)
Required:
  Master's Degree in English, English Education, Composition/Rhetoric, Reading, or related field; at least one year of experience teaching developmental English to diverse populations in a post-secondary school setting (preferably at a community college). Preferred:  Experience with ESL students, students with special needs, curriculum development, and instructional technology.
 
English Composition and Literature:  (Job Code F-COMP)
Required:  Master's Degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric, or related field.  At least one year experience teaching college-level English to diverse populations, preferably at a community college. 
Preferred:  Strong interest in theory and practice of teaching English Composition and experience with English language learners and  students with special needs. 
 
History:  (Job Code F-HISTORY)
Required: Master’s degree in History with a concentration in women's history; must have college teaching experience; ability to teach courses in Women's History and Women in American History; willingness to develop women's studies program. 
Preferred: Ph.D. in History with a specialization in women's history, women's studies, or gender studies. 

Horticulture and Botany:  (Job Code F-HORT)
Required:
  Master's degree in Horticulture or Botany; two years of college level teaching experience or four years of High School teaching Horticulture classes.  The candidate must participate in curriculum development, assessment and be willing to develop and teach hybrid and online science courses. 
Preferred:  Experience operating and maintaining a Greenhouse.

Legal & Related Studies: (Job Code F-LEGAL)
Required: Juris Doctor Degree; member in good standing of the NJ Bar; experience in the practice of law; demonstrated ability to teach courses in Business Law as well as ABA approved programs in Paralegal Studies and Legal Nurse Consulting. College level teaching experience of Legal Studies courses required.
