CAREER DEVELOPMENT and TRANSFER

 

Is there a Transfer and CareerCenter on campus?

 

Yes.The Center is a state of the art facility that contains a library and computers where students can obtain career and transfer information.Students can schedule appointments with counselors to help with decision making, resume critique and other career and transferrelated issues. The Center is located in RoomA-123and is open from 9AM to 5PM Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Tuesday from 9AM to 7PM.Call the Center at 201-447-7171 to schedule an appointment.

 

 

How can I decide on a college major?

 

Counselors are available to assist students in selecting a program at BCC or a major course of study when students are preparing to transfer to a four year college.You can explore the majors that suit your interests and learn which majors would be appropriate for your career plans.The Center also offers workshops on Selecting a Major. Where can I learn about different transfer and career options?

 

In the Resource Library you can find books and publications on self-assessment, careers, employers, conducting a job search and other related topics.We also have computers available to link you to career related internet sites that contain corporate and government information as well as job banks and professional association home pages.Come to the Center to pick up a copy of our recommended Internet Career Sites. How can I decide about myacademic and careerplans?

 

Students are encouraged to meet individually with a transfer or career counselor to gain information and explore occupational choices.

 

 

What is Cooperative Education?

 

Cooperative Education is an academic course in which eligible students apply what they have learned in the classroom to positions related to their majors or career goals.By working in pre-professional positions in business, government or public service organizations, students gain hands on experience as they earn academic credit. Can someone help me with my resume?

 

Yes.The Center offers a Resume Writing Guide which provides instruction and examples of resumes and there are resume writing and interviewing workshops. Additionally, students can schedule individual appointments with a counselor to have their resume critiqued.(Link to Workshop Schedule)

 

 

Where can I find a Job?

 

The Center lists over 1000 jobs per year.There are part time listings close to school and home where students can earn money to help pay for educational costs.There are also internships, summer jobs and full time listings of entry level professional positions.
