The United Way honored Bergen Community College for its commitment to community service with the Innovation Award for Best Challenge to Action at the Bergen County United Way 4th Annual Community Cornerstone Awards on November 12, 2010 in the West Hall Gallery on the College’s main campus in Paramus.
In addition to Bergen, the United Way honored PSE&G, CUnet and Tricia DeBartolome, who is a United Way Compassion Fund manager.
“The United Way of Bergen County is committed to helping individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations and the government to create long-term social change,†said Dr. G. Jeremiah Ryan, President of Bergen Community College. “Its goals are synonymous with the College’s mission of supporting the community through volunteering, service learning, and fundraising initiatives. Both the College and the United Way have responded well to the community during these tough economic times.â€
The United Way recognized the College’s contributions to helping struggling families. Bergen Community College’s faculty and staff offer support to individuals through the Bergen Community College Compassion Fund, which assists Bergen students and employees who are in financial need. Bergen employees determine how the funds will be allocated to help individuals.
Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu) based in Paramus is a public two-year coeducational college, enrolling more than 17,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields.
