Janet Henderson

Degrees: Rutgers University, Ed.D. in Social and Philosophical Foundations, 1982; Exchange Professor Program-taught Composition and Literature at Rutgers University 1994; Princeton University, Mid-Career Fellowship Program, 1991; M.S. in Guidance and Counseling from Illinois State University; BS and M.A in English at Western Illinois University.

Year Started at Bergen: 1972.

Courses Regularly Taught: Composition 101, 201, American Literature II, World Literature I, World Literature II, Social Aspects of Literature and Social Aspects of literature online, and a new course in Social Aspects of Literature called Detective Fiction in person and online next Fall 2004.

Organizations: Appointed to the Community College Image sub committee for the national Composition And Communication Conferences since 1998; Elected to the Executive Board of Teachers of English in Two Year Colleges for two 3-year terms.

Accomplishments: Published on the value of ESL Literary Journals in the Community College. Listed in 19th and 20th edition of Marquis' Who's Who of American Women, 5th edition of Who's Who in American Education 1996-97, in The Dictionary of International Biography, 25th Edition and in Who's Who Among America's Teachers 2000.

Philosophy of Teaching: Teaching at its best should be as exacting and challenging for the student as for the teacher.
