How to Get Started at Bergen

Boldfaced items MUST be done in order.  Other items SHOULD be done in order.  Download a print version of this page.

1. Apply to the College either through the Admissions Office, in Room A-128, or online (www.bergen.edu/admissions). If you are a transfer student, send official transcripts to the Admissions Office, Room C-102.

2. Attend Financial Aid workshop and complete Financial Aid forms.  Financial Aid Office: Room L-123.  Webpage: www.bergen.edu/pages/681.asp 

3. Prepare for placement tests. Review study materials.  Webpage: www.bergen.edu/pages/1194.asp

4. Take placement tests.  Review and understand the results (this is key for Step #6 below).  Testing Office: Room S-127.  Webpage: www.bergen.edu/pages/1179.asp

5. Make sure the College has your correct e-mail address at the Registration Department: Room A-128

6. Print our your program requirements.  Webpage: www.bergen.edu/pages/2923.asp

7. Open a WebAdvisor account.  Go to: http://go.bergen.edu.  Select WebAdvisor for Students > I’m New to WebAdvisor

8. Register by attending a New Student Registration Workshop (schedule here).  Academic Advising Center, Room A-118/122.  Webpage: www.bergen.edu/pages/680.asp. Can’t make a Registration Workshop?  View this Advisement PowerPoint presentation.

9. Once you are registered, pay bill at Bursar’s Office, Room A-229.  Webpage: www.bergen.edu/pages/2936.asp.  You can also pay online through your WebAdvisor account and/or make arrangements for time payments.

10. Get Student ID and parking permit.  Public Safety, Room L-154.

11. Attend Orientation by Student Life, Room A-115.  Webpage: www.bergen.edu/pages/796.asp.

12. Purchase books. Bookstore, Room C-108.  Webpage: www.bergen.bkstr.com.

With over 9,000 new students registering every year, one-on-one advising for new students is not possible. Attend one of the New Student Registration Workshops, or if you cannot attend, view the Advisement PowerPoint presentation.

New Student Registration Workshops last about 1½ hours.  By the end of the workshop you will be registered and will have your class schedule for your first semester.  More importantly, you will know how to use WebAdvisor, which is your primary tool for managing your student account at the College.
