Local Business & Industry Programs
For the past 30 years, the Learning Center has conducted successful on- and off-site employee training programs that stress the attainment of measurable objectives by the student. Specific components of the program are: Skills Assessment; English-as-a-Second Language; Basic Skills Development (math or reading); work-related communications; and general communication thinking skills. The program also focuses on essential life/work skills within culturally diverse work environments. Employees, whether native born or of foreign background, seeking English basic skills proficiency can benefit from the development of oral communications and reading skills. The courses offer guided exercises in conversation, idiomatic expressions, workplace vocabulary, basic reading, math, and improved pronunciation. During the program, participants benefit from learning how to think critically, how to follow directions, and expanded workplace vocabulary. Limited class enrollment allows each employee to participate and receive attention to individual needs.

The Goals of the Courses are:

  • To provide employees with Basic Skills or English-as-a-Second Language training that relates to    general and practical occupational knowledge and communication skills that offer students the opportunity to improve their professional and personal lives.
  • To provide each employee with a learning experience that will enhance productivity and personal satisfaction.
  • To provide a learning environment that is based on the needs of the employees and to help employees to become independent learners with increased self-confidence through success.
  • To recognize that adults have a wide variety of experience and talents and to use this knowledge in the program design.

The Ciarco Learning Center will provide a qualified instructor as well as supply textbooks, testing materials, and other instructional materials. Certificates of completion are awarded to employees at the conclusion of each program cycle.
