HH 751   Hemodialysis Technician Certificate Program                    $1,990

The Hemodialysis Technician course is a 12 week, 117.5 hour program that is offered every fall and spring semester. In addition to a 1.5 hour orientation, it is 33 hours of lecture (3 hours one evening per week for 11 weeks) plus 80 hours of clinical training (8 hours per week for 10 weeks). Clinical assignments are in local hospitals under the supervision of experienced hemodialysis nurses.

 

This comprehensive course is designed to prepare the student through lecture and hands-on training for entry-level employment in a dialysis unit. The course curriculum is intensive and should only be considered by those students with experience and/or a strong interest in math and the biomedical sciences.

 

Students will learn:

            • Principles of renal failure and dialysis

            • Role of the Hemodialysis technician in a dialysis unit

            • Operation of dialysis devices

            • Universal Precautions/Asepsis and aseptic technique

            • Anatomy and physiology of the renal system

            • Pre-dialysis Patient preparation

            • Preparing dialysis equipment

            • Monitoring treatment

            • Other related topics of dialysis, patient care, and treatment

 

A certificate of completion is awarded to those students who successfully complete the course. Exams are given.

 

Important:  New Hospital regulations require all healthcare students to apply for and pass a Criminal Background Investigation (CBI). The cost of the CBI is the responsibility of the student.

Prerequisites:  High School Diploma or GED; medical exam and multiple lab tests; flexible schedule to accept any available clinical assignment; CBI and an interview with Program Coordinator, Brenda Milo, RN.
