A Certificate of Completion from the Division of Continuing Education is given to each student who completes the requirements of a Certificate Program. Any course may be taken individually if the prerequisite is met.
Certificates are issued for all computer courses running 12 hours or more. Certificates are not issued for classes of six hours or less.

Take work from concept to print using today’s technology. This Graphic Design Certificate Program covers the essentials of the key applications needed to work in Graphic Design or Prepress Production. Each application has a unique function: InDesign for page layout, Photoshop for manipulation of images, and Illustrator for creating logos and illustrations. Whether you work for an agency or your own business, the technical skills need to be combined with the practical know-how of the Real World of Graphic Design. To receive the Graphic Design Certificate, the following four courses are required:

Adobe InDesign is a page layout/publishing program. Learn to design and create documents for printing, anything from business cards and newsletters, to single page advertisements and flyers. Work with text from within the application and from other sources and programs. Use InDesign’s precise typographical tools, create style sheets, and use the color control for both texts and objects. Bring in images from other applications and manipulate them in this program. Finally, learn how to print and collect your job for output.

CC 552 Real World of Graphic Design

Prepare for real agency experience by launching a new company. Take a project from beginning to completion. Step by step, create an entire identity program for this company, including logo, capabilities brochure, advertising campaign and website and present it to the client. Go through the production process and advertisement placements. Learn to communicate with (a) clients, (b) the agency team including creative directors, copywriters and account executives, and (c) outside vendors such as printers, web programmers, illustrators and photographers. Learn to think like a designer to sell a product or service. Knowledge of the appropriate software and creative talent are the foundations, now learn how to deal in the real world. Prerequisites: CC485 InDesign and CC465 Illustrator, or equivalent user experience.

CC 544 InDesign: Advanced Techniques

Beyond the basics of InDesign is a world of features to enable you to create pages that really work. Topics for the advanced class include: precise guide placement, creating libraries and snippets, working with Bridge, anchoring objects on a page, mastering master pages, and linking and updating external text files. Create and apply object styles, style sheets, nested styles and bullet lists. Place and manipulate layered comps from PhotoShop in InDesign and use quick apply. Create templates. Prerequisite: InDesign, or equivalent user experience.

COMPUTER TRAINING
MICROSOFT IN THE WORKPLACE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
To earn this certificate and be job market ready, you need to complete Parts I, II and III. Each part is 60 hours of training time and is three weeks long. Part I is an Introductory Level course, Part II is Intermediate and Part III is Advanced.
Students who complete the course are competent in using Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Resume preparation and using the Internet for job search is included. The only prerequisite is the ability to type 20 words per minute accurately. The Keyboarding Fundamentals course, which is scheduled just before Microsoft in the Workplace, is useful to students at all skill levels to improve speed and accuracy.
If you wish to learn QuickBooks Pro, there is a course starting on October 5, 2009, when this MS in the Workplace ends. You will receive a Certificate for successful completion of the QuickBooks course.
Part of the success of this certificate program is that it was designed for adults who have not been in the workplace recently or have never learned computer skills. Everyone in the class is in the same boat, preparing for a new or better job.

Using Excel database features, students make pivot tables; and they create an Access database including tables, forms, reports and queries. Prerequisite: MS in the Workplace, Part I.

CISCO CCNA CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Bergen Community College is a certified Cisco Networking Training Academy. Students prepare to earn the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification. Through the Cisco Networking Academy, students learn to design, build and maintain computer networks. Parts I through IV of the Academy Program, 280 hours of instruction, provide students with a basic foundation in networking. Training is sequential. Students must pass each module before moving to the next module. The course is taught using lecture, hands-on, and Internet-based content. Prerequisite: Some experience with computers, and familiarity with Windows operating system, the keyboard, the mouse and software programs. The program consists of four modules. Each module runs for 70 hours. This includes materials and tools. Total program cost is $4,040 for Parts I, II, III and IV. Students may register and pay for one Part at a time.
