To earn a certificate you must complete the following seven courses:

BI 517 Small Business Record Keeping

You may register for individual courses on a non-certificate basis. 

BI 517  Small Business Record Keeping  (2 sessions) $80
Learn how to do your own bookkeeping and use your records as a management tool. Key topics include: general ledger, balance sheet, understanding inventory control, cash flow management, tax planning, end of month summary procedures, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, cash disbursements, profit and loss controls, and more.

BI 521  Small Business Taxes                                       $45

Learn the differences between local, state and federal taxes and what you need to know concerning employment, social security and sales taxes as well as the impact on your business structure.

This workshop will give you basic knowledge of the laws affecting business. Business owners will learn how to choose the appropriate business structure, assess business risks, provide adequate protection and establish proper record keeping and controls.

BI 519  The Business Plan (3 sessions)                     $125.

Business plans are a necessary tool for every phase of business operations, from start-up to expansion. Using a business plan to chart your course will improve your chances for success. This workshop will give you the basis for a sound business plan.

Seminar conducted by Bergen Small Business Development Center and the U.S. Small Business Administration. BI 597  Principles of Importing     (2 sessions)      $85
Learn the ins and outs of importing. Look at the structure of importing, customs procedures, tariffs, foreign exchange problems, cost effectiveness, transportation modes and documentation.

BI 596  Letters of Credit - Importing/Exporting     (5 sessions)    $165
This 10-hour seminar will focus on letters of credit as a method of payment in import and export transactions. Various types of letter of credit will be discussed, and an overview of operations and procedures will be presented. New developments in this area of finance such as Bolero, TradeCard and other electronic trade platforms will be discussed together with relevant case studies.

Learn the practical side of exporting. In this class you will discover the essentials, such as selecting product lines, locating suppliers and distributors and sales representatives. Overseas agents and setting up an efficient export management system are also discussed.
