Introduction to Teaching 24 hour Pre-Service
The New Jersey Department of Education recently approved The Introduction to Teaching 24 Hour Pre-service Program that Bergen Community College and other community colleges in the state will offer through a consortium with New Jersey City University. The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the skills and tools needed for the teaching profession. Introduction to Teaching is a new requirement from the New Jersey Department of Education for everyone who applies for a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) and enrolls in an alternate route teacher certification program. It is a non-credit course with 20 hours of class work and 4 hours of classroom observation. Upon the completion of the course, students will receive a certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education, which must be included in their applications for Certificates of Eligibility. All classroom observations must occur in the intended area of one’s CE. Tuition for this course is $200.
