I have AOL and am experiencing problems accessing WebCT, what can I do?
There are some known issues to accessing WebCT with AOL. AOL may cause your system to lock up and/or crash while working in WebCT. Please review the section of Configuration for web browser compatibility for complete instructions.
Because the browser AOL provides may cause your system to lock up and/or crash while working in WebCT, the best solution is to use one of the browsers we recommend.
Internet Explorer and at least one alternative browser is available in all free time labs and the library.
After you log on to AOL, open up the browser you have selected, and use it to access WebCT.
Be aware there are some additional steps you need to take. To keep your AOL session from shutting down due to lack of perceived activity, you'll need to do something to fool AOL's idle timer; for example, create a "private" chat room and leave the room open.
From time to time, you also will need to respond to the message asking whether you want to stay online. To do this you must make AOL the active window and check for this message.

What's the difference between WebCT and WebAdvisor?
WebCT and WebAdvisor are not the same.
WebCT is the software we use to provide access to the online courses at BCC. We also use WebCT for partially online courses and to enhance regular face-to-face classroom courses.
WebAdvisor allows you to register online for courses and gives you access to your Bergen Community College record. Through this access, you can obtain your grades, and update your email address. To apply for a WebAdvisor account, go to www.bergen.edu and click on “Web Advisor” at the bottom of the page and follow the prompts. |

There are several ways you can deal with spyware once you have it on your computer. There are also some things you can do to prevent getting spyware on your computer. |

How do I get rid of Spyware?
• You can use software designed to remove spyware, such as Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware is available as freeware and can be found at http://www.lavasoftusa.com. |
|
Are there any other ways to deal with this problem?
There are other ways to deal with Spyware interference, but each has potential drawbacks:
• You can uninstall Internet Explorer and reinstall the latest version. However, Internet Explorer elements are often reused by many Windows and other third-party applications. Uninstalling and reinstalling Internet Explorer may unintentionally create problems with other applications that work integrally with Internet Explorer.
• You can use a different computer, such as in one in the Bergen computer labs, to access your course. |

• Don’t download software that requires you to also download spyware or other software with which you are not familiar.
• Make sure that your Internet security options are set so that executable material cannot be put on your computer without your permission. Guidelines for setting your Internet security levels can be found at http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm. See the section entitled “Recommended Minimal Security Settings.”
• Earthlink provides software to help its users avoid downloading spyware unintentionally. AOL has announced that it will soon provide such software to its users. |
