Human Resources Certificate Program

 

This certificate program was developed to provide those seeking a career in Human Resources (HR) with an understanding of the essential knowledge areas of HR. It is beneficial for those with newly acquired responsibilities for key functional areas within their organization. The interactive learning environment is designed to assist students in gaining confidence in their abilities to successfully perform on the job.
 
Who should attend?
• Entry to mid-level professionals seeking more in-depth knowledge of the six primary HR areas.
• Supervisors and managers with responsibilities for key HR functions such as interviewing, performance management, and training.
• Small business owners (15 or more employees) seeking to understand their compliance obligations under Federal and state laws as well as effectively manage the HR functions.
 
There are six core courses and six electives. They will be rotated each semester. The core courses are nine hours each. The elective workshops are three or six hours each. Students may elect a minimum of 12 hours for the electives.

Understand how to integrate mandated and voluntary benefits. Learn the differences between defined benefit and defined contribution plans. Discover how to create a competitive program to attract and retain talent. Gain confidence in conducting an RFP for initial selection and annual renewal then effectively communicating and smoothly implementing the program.

Gain understanding of various pay systems and how to select the right elements for your company’s needs. Learn how to conduct a job analysis, define pay structures, and establish pay ranges and job grades. Exercises demonstrate how to evaluate internal equity, determine external market competitiveness and manage pay compression. Special guest presenter from Wage Access will provide insights to reading, understanding and applying salary survey data to a compensation program.
