In these "hands on" courses you will learn the basic principles and small details of drawing fashion figures that will lead to designing an entire wardrobe, custom fit just for you.

Welcome to Bergen Community College’s Division of Continuing Education
newest certificate program. Learn to design clothes and develop an eye for
fashion detail. Use your imagination and ingenuity to create your own
designs. In these “hands on” courses you will learn the basic principles and
small details of drawing fashion figures that will enable you to design an
entire wardrobe, custom fit just for you! After completing three courses you
will receive a Certificate of Completion in Fashion Design. In late fall we will
have a fashion show of all the designs you have created!

This course will get you accustomed to the mannequin, how to visualize your own styles when you are draping, and learn how to fit and create by draping. All levels are welcome.

CD 450 Pattern Making

This course will make students accustomed to the mannequin and show them how to visualize more of their styles when they are pattern-making. You will learn how to fit and create more styles by pattern making. All levels are welcome.

CD 446 Basic Sewing

Learn the basics of sewing on a machine, with emphasis on the basic types of seams and skills needed to create a small project or a project of your choice such as a duvet cover with matching shams. The use and care of a sewing machine, stitching, and how to read and use a pattern will be taught. Each student is required to bring a portable sewing machine, a tape measure, scissors and straight pins to each session. Any additional materials will be discussed during class.

CD 471 Techniques for Garment Construction

Hours: 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
This class will teach the student all the various garment construction techniques for garment construction. Learn the different types of seams, seam finishes, cuff, collar and waistband construction. Various zipper insertions, types of darts and much much more. This is a hands-on class. The student will be given a binder with fabric and instructions for the completion of all the pieces and parts of garment construction with out the making the full garment!

Instructor’s Bio: Adua Celentano, haute couture fashion designer, was educated at the Scuola delle Belle Arti, came to the United States as an exchange student and graduated from NYU incorporating her classic European training with American style.
Adua designed fashion apparel for ladies of distinction at her New York midtown studio for over two decades. Previously, she taught at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.
