Speaker Series Features Dr. Cornel West

Dr. Cornel West, one of America’s most provocative public intellectuals, will speak on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 1:40 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre. Dr. West has been a champion for racial justice throughout his life, providing analysis and commentary on race relations and democracy in the U.S. and throughout the world. His breakthrough book on race relations and democracy in the U.S., “Race Matters,” is regarded as a contemporary classic. Dr. West’s expertise in the fields of writing, speaking and teaching combine the traditions of the black Baptist church, progressive politics and jazz, which are aimed at raising social consciousness on topics such as democracy and race.
