Computerized Healthcare Billing and Coding Certificate Program

This certificate program is designed to prepare students to become successfully employed in healthcare billing and coding. Students will be introcued to insurance concepts, patient deuctibles, co-insurance, co-payments, coidng principles and guidelines as tehy apply to the medical office, hospital, nursing home and dental office. The program includes a simulated billing process utilizing the popular Medisoft software used in many medical practices and billing facilities. Students will learn basic topics such as data file creation, practice formation, patient file construction, billing information preparation, attomatic payment application and more Other topics to be covered include:
Healthcare Delivery and Insurance Management Regulations: Concepts of health care systems organizations, standards for accreditation and licensure as well as government regulations in healthcare
Medical Terminology and Anatomy: Structure and formation of medical terms, pronuciation, usage, spelling and medical abbreviations
Medical Coding: Conventional coding. labeling and classification as well as navigation of the ICD-9-Cm and CPT-4 manuals will be taught
Insurance Calims Processing and Documentation: Electronic and paper claim processing, explanation of benefits, various forms and processes.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be issued a certificate of completion and will be eligilbe to sit for the Billing and Coding Certification exam through National Career Association.
Prerequisite: High School Diploma/GED
