Bergen Community College is pleased to be one of the first community colleges in the State of New Jersey to offer SORA training on our Paramus Campus.  SORA or the “Security Officer Registration Act” mandates sweeping changes in the private security industry.  The most significant of these is the requirement that all security officers must complete a twenty-four hour basic training course by July 1, 2007.  This course must be retaken every two years.

The course includes instruction in Homeland Security, Incident Command System, Report Writing, Use of Force, Theft Prevention, Ethics, Criminal Street Gangs and Certification in First Aid/CPR and AED.

  2. All students must register on-line with the New Jersey State Police and receive a 30-day temporary license and number.  This should be done before the first day of class.  But only the DAY BEFORE CLASS!  They also must print out a fingerprint from and be fingerprinted.
