Methodology

The Center for Suburban Criminal Justice will:

1. Serve all three branches of the trinity of criminal justice – police, courts, and corrections.

2. Seek to include multi-county and multi-state criminal justice systems in the tri-state area by membership in the Center.

3. Serve as informational and networking resource center on issues of suburban crime, suburban criminal justice systems and their relationship to suburban communities.

4. Link this coordinated suburban criminal justice initiative and response to nearby center cities and rural areas to provide a balanced response to crime which flows freely between  these environments. This will include coordinating educational programs with the Centers dealing with Urban and Rural criminal justice.

5.  Work in partnership with existing criminal justice training centers and college programs in order to:

a. Promote a suburban sense of place in these programs, which can enhance the nature of their professional mission.

b. Strengthen professional development and training for suburban criminal justice personnel through provision of continuous  college credit and certificate programs, including those delivered in-class and via on-line courses, teleconferencing, Web-enhanced venues.

c. Increase the value and accessibility of research-based information available to the public on suburban criminal justice.

6. Respond to emerging national problems and highlight important issues and crime trends such as terrorism, gangs and drugs, violence against women and to survey the role of female and minority criminal justice personnel in suburban venues.

7. Sponsor public events and produce television programs which will increase citizen understanding of suburban criminal justice as well as communities’ ability to effectively partner with professionals in the field.

8.  Partner with social service agencies, corporations and others to provide effective  strategies to suburban problems, including coordinating resources in order to more effectively provide services.
