International Reinstatement

If you are out of status, you must make an appointment with an International Student Counselor immediately to begin your immigration reinstatement process. You will receive a packet of information from the International Student Counselor. Once you have gathered all of the necessary documentation, make another appointment with an International Student Counselor to finalize your application to be sent to USCIS. If you are planning to travel in the near future, please indicate that to the International Student Counselor in your first appointment.

Student must provide these items to the DSO:

  • Form I-539 must be filled out (see example)
  • Check or Money Order for US$ 300.00, made out to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
  • Copy of your current I-20
  • Copy of ALL previous I-20’s, if any
  • Current BCC class registration receipt-copy
  • A description of ALL courses you are currently registered for (photocopy from catalogue)
  • Copy of ALL of your transcripts
  • Copy of passport (biographical page with picture, and your visa page)
  • Your ORIGINAL I-94
  • A bank statement proving US$18,000.00. Bank statement must be no more than 6 months old
  • An affidavit of support, if you are not self-sponsored, (if someone else is paying for your education.)  Your sponsor must provide a letter of sponsorship along with the bank statement.
  • A letter from you explaining your situation, and why you should be reinstated. You will only be considered for reinstatement as an F-I student if your letter can establish:

·              That the violation of status was due solely to circumstances beyond your
control or that  failure to reinstate you would result in extreme hardship

·              That you are pursuing or will pursue a full course of study ( 12 credits  minimum)

·              you have not been employed without authorization; and

·              you are not in removal proceedings
Once you have gathered these documents, make an appointment to see an International Counselor.
