Burning a CD Via MS Windows XP
Microsoft Windows XP has a built in CD burning software that allows you to burn CD’s directly within the operating system. This feature is similar to that of being able to save to diskettes, zip disks, and other removable media devices.
|
To burn a CD in Microsoft XP, please do the following:
- Insert a blank CD into the CD-RW Drive.
- After inserting the Blank CD, Windows XP will prompt you for an action by displaying a dialogue box.
- Please select “Take no action”, and click “OK”.
|
 |
-
Select the file(s) or folder(s) you would like to burn. Note: To select multiple files or folders, hold the CTRL key while making selections.
-
After selecting the file(s) or folder(s) that you would like to burn onto a CD, right click on the selection(s) and in the shortcut menu, select “Send To” then click on “CD Drive(E:). |
|
- Once that is complete a pop up will appear in the lower right hand corner. Double click on this pop up icon. If this pop up does not appear please double click on the “My Computer” folder on your desktop.
|
|
- Once you are in the “My Computer” folder, please double click on the CD Rom Drive.
- On the right-hand side click on “Write these files to CD” to begin burning the selected file(s) and/or folder(s) to CD.
Note: File(s) or Folder(s) ready to be written to CD have a down arrow symbol in the left hand corner. |
 |
- The CD Writing Wizard will now appear. At this point, enter a “CD name” in the highlighted area or leave the current name, which is normally the current date and click “Next”.
|
 |
-
At this time the selected file(s) and/or folder(s) will be written to the CD.
-
Once the contents have been written to CD, the CD will eject itself.
-
Another dialogue box will appear asking you if you want to create another CD with the same files (another copy).
-
If you would like to create another CD with the same files, check “Yes, write these files to another CD”, insert a new CD, click “Next” and repeat step 5. If you do not want to make any more copies of the burned files, click “Finish”. The burning process is now complete. |
