Biography: After working as a Marketing Director for 20 years at companies like Best Foods, Lipton and Unilever, I decided to take my part-time hobby of adjunct college teaching to the next level and became a full-time faculty member at Bergen Community College in 1989. What a wonderful change of pace this has been!
What made you decide to become a faculty/staff member?: I enjoyed my seven years as a part-time Adjunct Professor at Pace University so when I decided I needed a change from working in corporate marketing, joining Bergen Community College as a full-time faculty member was a natural choice. I enjoy teaching Bergen's wonderful mix of different students.
How do you personally define success in the learning outcomes of your students?: Seeing increasing numbers of students in my class doing better at the end of the semester—in terms of learning, writing and speaking—really gives me and my students a feeling of accomplishment. In my Personal Finance course, I think I’ve been successful when students begin to save money, open up a Roth IRA, and grow their money for their own future.
What have you learned from your students?: My students help ME understand how Marketing works when we discuss their own experience as consumers. In my Personal Finance course, I learn what students need to know to help them learn to save money and invest for their own future.
