Repertorio Espanol, a theatre company dedicated to presenting both classic and contemporary works from Spain and Latin America, will present “La Vida Es Sueno” (Life is a Dream) at Bergen Community College on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre. Tickets are $22 for adults and $20 for students, children and seniors (65 and over).

“La Vida Es Sueno,” is Pedro Calderon de la Barca’s most famous work. The story is considered an allegory about the human situation and the mystery of life, as it explores the conflict of free will and predestination.

The play depicts Prince Segismund of Poland, who was imprisoned at birth when his horoscope convinces his father that he will bring disaster to the country. After almost a lifetime in prison, Segismund is released to reign over the country, but is rebellious and violent. He is then re-imprisoned and told the previous events were just a dream, which brings him to question whether life is reality or a dream.

The play will be presented in Spanish with simultaneous live English translation.

The performance is part of Bergen’s “This & That from Here & There” Performing Arts Series. For ticket information or for a full schedule of events, please call Bergen’s Office of Community and Cultural Affairs at (201) 447-7428 or go to www.bergen.edu/cca
