Forbidden Broadway SVU - A Musical Review

Saturday, January 20, 2007 7:30 p.m. in the Ciccone Theatre

Created in 1982 by unemployed actor Gerard Alessandrini to showcase his talents, Forbidden Broadway is a hilarious spoof of actual Broadway productions. Critics and audiences were wowed and it has since become New York’s longest running musical comedy revue. Forbidden Broadway has won Drama Desk, Obie and Outer Critics Circle awards. Most of its “victims” (stars and casts from original productions) make a point of stopping by to see what Gerard Alessandrini has done to them. Updated regularly, Forbidden Broadway has had several editions and countless revisions, but remains one of the hottest tickets on Broadway. The show has also become known for “uncovering” talented by as yet unknown actors, many of whom have gone on to stardom on Broadway, TV and the movies.

Amikaeyla ~The Elephant’s Child

Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in the Ciccone Theatre

Amikaeyla Proudfoot Gaston captivates her audience with stories, songs and poetry from traditional tales of African American and Native American cultures. Joined by her musical

ensemble, she weaves the words of her ancestors with music to create intimate, inspiring life lessons. Amikaeyla’s The Elephant’s Child, based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic story, is a superbly rendered and wondrously imaginative interpretation of the quest for knowledge and truth. Ami’s interactive storytelling, original songs, flute and African drumming work in harmony with the beautiful scenes created by vibrant dancers bringing the characters to life. Together, they take the audience on a “journey to learn,” incorporating sign language and audience participation along the way. A Black History Month Performance.
