Network Storage Policies
Individual Data Storage
1 Gigabyte of secure network storage is provided to all users holding a valid BCC network account. This storage is made available through an automatic redirection of a user’s “My Documents” folder on the network XP desktop. Data in this storage space is backed up to tape cartridges regularly to ensure availability in cases of system failure. Users are expected to maintain the data in this storage area to ensure compliance with the one gigabyte quota.
Every BCC network account is configured to automatically redirect the “My Documents” folder of a BCC network XP desktop to the user’s personal storage area on BCC’s NAS storage area. Laptops will be configured to make a copy of the personal storage area available to users when working without a connection to the BCC network. Automatic synchronization of the files on this storage area will ensure the most recent information is kept available on the college NAS storage area each time a user connects to the BCC network.
Requests for additional personal storage beyond the one gigabyte quota require an Individual Data Storage Expansion Form detailing the need for additional storage to be submitted to the Help Desk.
Shared Network Storage
Shared network storage can be made available to accommodate the need for departments to regularly share data between multiple network users. In this case, a shared folder on the appropriate server can be provided to the department upon receipt of a Shared Network Storage Request Form.
Shared Network folders will be limited to a maximum of 200MB to ensure nightly backups of the storage areas unless otherwise specified. OIT may contact the primary or secondary contacts for each storage area during data maintenance routines each semester.
