Distance Learning--How to Find a Book
You can look for textbooks or other items for your class by course number or professor’s name; search by subject or keyword unless you have a specific author or title. (All of these are options that can be searched plus periodical title and call number.)
Once you’ve found the item in the Library’s catalog look at the LOCATION, CALL # and STATUS - Circulating Upper floor and available means you are able to take it out. Print out the record and bring it with you. Click here to view a demonstration. (Books circulate for three weeks and there is a limit of 10.)
If the book you need is “available”, and you are a registered Distance Learning student*, you can call the Interlibrary Loan Office (201-447-7983) or send email to bccill@bergen.edu and request that the book be sent to you. (Have your student i.d. number handy.) It will be due back in 28 days. You are responsible for returning it to the Library by the due date. If you mail it back, you must send it return receipt requested. If the BCC Library does not own the book, the fastest way to get it is to try to borrow it from your town’s public library or library consortium. If you are a resident of Bergen or Passaic Counties use the links provided to check their catalogs. (Residents of other towns/counties look here for a link to your local library.)
- Still unable to locate the book?
Fill out the online interlibrary loan form and the Library will try to get it for you. (Be aware that this process may take several weeks; let us know by what date you must have the book.)
For help email or call Barbara Alper, Distance Learning Librarian (201-612-5350), or the Interlibrary Loan Office (201-447-7983).
*To be eligible for home book delivery service students must be registered for online courses only (courses indicated by a WB suffix).
