Bergen Community College to Honor the Life of First Asian Secretary General of the United Nations
Who: Daw Aye Aye Thant, daughter of U Thant, former secretary general of the United Nations from 1961 to 1971, will visit Bergen Community College.
What: College President Dr. G. Jeremiah Ryan will interview Daw Aye Aye Thant to discuss how her father’s memory lives on through the institute that bears his name. Following the interview, there will be a photo exhibition of U Thant in West Hall’s Gallery Bergen.
When: Monday, November 9, 2009 at 6 p.m.
Why: As part of the College’s Asian Heritage Week celebration, Bergen will honor
U Thant - the first Asian secretary general of the United Nations. The photo exhibitions will depict the life and legacy of his quest for world peace and his contributions to education, environmental protection and health.
