The Bergen Community College Foundation recently partnered with the Financial Planning Association of New Jersey to teach students about the importance of fiscal responsibility during these challenging economic times. “Money Management and Budgeting: Taking Control of Your Life” was the theme behind a series of workshops held at the College’s Paramus campus.

The Financial Planning Association of New Jersey also established an essay contest for Bergen students. The winner, to be announced at a later date, will receive a $500 scholarship for the Spring 2010 semester.

The day’s workshops encouraged students to acquire the knowledge and resources they need to make informed financial decisions. The workshops were led by financial experts:

• Charles Roberson, Wealth Manager for Modera Wealth Management, and director of technology with the Financial Planning Association of New Jersey
• Dan Guzzo, Financial Planner for the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association – College Retirement Equities Fund
• Bob Herold, Wealth Manager for Merrill Lynch

The Financial Planning Association of New Jersey’s mission is to educate the public on the benefits and value of the financial planning process through professionals who possess the highest level of competency and integrity. The association also champions the value of financial planning, advances the financial planning profession, and enhances the professional development of its members.

The BCC Foundation is a separately incorporated foundation whose mission is to raise funds to support student scholarships, faculty and staff development, construction, and other special projects and programs. The Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of community leaders from the public and private sector who work closely with the College to develop fundraising opportunities to meet the needs of the institution. Since its 1982 inception, the Foundation has received over $14 million in total contributions.
