Dr. Ron Mazurek touched countless lives as a talented musician and associate professor of music at Bergen Community College. In honor of his passion for education and commitment to students, the College unveiled the “Ron Mazurek Music Technology Laboratory Plaque” on October 14, 2009 in the Recital Hall in West Hall, on the Paramus campus. The unveiling was followed by a reception and retrospective of Dr. Mazurek’s works.

Dr. Mazurek began his tenure at Bergen as a lecturer in 1998. After his sudden death in April 2007, faculty members from the College’s Department of Arts and Communication chose to honor their colleague by naming the Music Technology Lab after the professor who was instrumental in developing the College’s Music Technology Program.

With the support of Dr. Mazurek’s family and the College’s faculty, the Bergen Community College Foundation raised more than $20,000 to establish the Ron Mazurek Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will provide critical support to the College’s music students.

“Dr. Mazurek was committed to creating a state-of-the-art learning environment for students and faculty to collaborate on music and art projects,” said Amparo Codding, Dean of Arts and Humanities at Bergen Community College. “The renaming of the Music Technology Laboratory is a fitting tribute to a professor who was an accomplished performer and role model to students.”

As the recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Senior Specialist Award, in Bogota, Columbia, and a Fellowship in Composition from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Dr. Mazurek’s music was recognized throughout the world. He was an accomplished performer on electronic keyboards, having performed at Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, and music festivals throughout the United States and Europe. He also served as a founding member of the International Composers and Interactive Artists organization and the New Jersey Guild of Composers.

“Dr. Mazurek introduced new programs in computer-based recording, electronic music, and directed an interactive music performance series, all to the benefit of our Bergen students,” said Dr. Linda Marcel, Chair of the Performing Arts Department at Bergen Community College.
