STUDENT CONTRACT
1. You must be a currently registered student at BCC to use the Cerullo Learning Assistance Center (CLAC) and must bring your ID (or your schedule or current bill) every time you make an appointment. You may only request tutoring for the courses in which you are registered, with the exception of writing tutoring. Writing/English tutoring is available for all registered students, regardless of whether you are currently enrolled in a writing course. During busy periods (midterms and finals), students currently enrolled in Writing/English courses will be given priority in scheduling appointments with tutors; all other students are encouraged to take advantage of our weekly writing walk-in hours during this time.
2. All tutoring sessions will be held in L-125. Appointments are for one (1) hour or less. Tutoring sessions are offered twice a week per subject, a maximum of 6 hours a week (if you’re taking 3 or more subjects). You cannot make consecutive appointments with the same tutor on the same day (unless approved by a supervisor).
3. You can be tutored on a “walk-in” basis (limit of two a week), if a tutor is available at that time. However, we strongly recommend that you make an appointment ahead of time.
4. Late Cancellations and “No Shows”
Please cancel 24 hours in advance by calling 201-447-7489 or going to room L-125. After two “no-shows” (when you do not keep or call to cancel your appointment), you will not be allowed to make appointments in advance, but you may come in on a “walk-in” basis. Two late cancellations are considered one “no-show” (four late cancellations equal two “no- shows”). After two “no-shows,” the CLAC reserves the right to cancel all further appointments without notice.
5. You should be prepared for your session in order to get the maximum benefit. Remember your own book, work including labs, research papers, take home test, etc., are your responsibility; the tutor is here “to assist” not “to do.” Tutors have the right to refuse to tutor if you are unprepared.
6. Space permitting, you may continue to study in the Center after your tutorial session has ended. Computers in the center are reserved for tutorial purposes. Personal computer use is available in the library as well as computer labs. The Center copier is only for staff use.
7. You may receive tutoring for placement tests only with a supervisor’s approval. Placement tests determine your level in the content area in question. Since placement tests do not determine a grade or provide credit, the CLAC is not required to provide tutoring for these exams.
8. Eating, socializing and talking on cell phones in the Center are strictly prohibited. Anyone found doing so will be asked to leave.
