Professors recognized their students, who had successfully completed their Service Learning. 137 students who were responsible for approximately 2000 hours of service were eligible for Certificates of Recognition from Community College.
Opening remarks, by the Academic Vice President, Dr. Gary Porter stressed the significance of Service Learning in the development of students, the integration of the college within the community, and the traditional role of higher education , “To create a more informed and involved citizen.”
This event is scheduled each fall and spring to honor students who have chosen to make a difference, get involved in the community, and participate in Service Learning.
Service Learning is the academic program which gives students the opportunity to service needs in their own communities. Professors guide their students in finding a way to contribute to the community and enhance learning relative to their course work.
