Printing Problems & Solutions
If you are not able to successfully produce a printout while using Colleague, this list may help you to identify and solve your problem.
1. You need to run XESP (EasySpooler) to get your printout to print. Click on the main menu on File®Run and key in XESP. When the main menu appears, choose option number 17-“Change hold status of a spool file”. Read the prompt at the bottom of your screen. Answer ‘Y’ to print out the job, or, if you are prompted to key in the line number, note which job has your userid and key in the number to print out the job. In this screen print, bthelen is my userid and 125 is the line number of my job.
125. helpdsk bthelen 1 Sep 8 14:38 Y Y stock Hold 1 ( 1 = Number of pages )
33862 /tmp/PRT0019199
Change Hold Status. Enter line number (key in line number here)
(See the document on Using EasySpooler for more details.)
2. You may have asked for invalid information. For example, on XCSL you asked for rosters for 1999fa instead of 1999FA , or on XNAR for all the MAT courses in the AH Division. Since no data will match these criteria, you will not get a printout.
3. You specified H (Hold/Browse Output) in the first field on the Output Device screen that appears after you enter criteria for printing a report. Rerun the print request and be sure the field says P for Print in the first field on the screen following your report-printing criteria screen.
4. Your network printer has been “detached” and must be “attached”. (This sometimes happens when a printer has run out of paper and was not refilled immediately.) Click on File®Run, XESP, and choose option 4: Attach printers. The following is a sample of what your screen will say:
Printer Status Form ID Description
cooprt1 attached,idle stock Network HPLJ8000N (COOP)C100 X7171
lib1 attached,idle stock Network HPLJ8000N (LIB) L216 X7130
bandg1 detached,idle stock Network HPLJ8000N (B&G) A025 X7107
If the screen indicates that your printer is Detached, key in your printer’s name in lower case letters when prompted at the bottom of the screen, hit enter, and when the EasySpooler main menu returns, choose option 17 to print as in number 1 above.
5. The printer you have been assigned to in the system is different from the one you expected to print to. When you run XESP, check the name of your printer. In the example below, helpdsk is the name of the printer my job will go to.
125. helpdsk bthelen 1 Sep 8 14:38 Y Y stock Hold 1
33862 /tmp/PRT0019199
As in number 4 above, you can find where your printer is located by choosing option 4 on the EasySpooler main menu and noting the room number as illustrated.
