Repertorio Español - The Feast of the Goat Friday, October 22, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. - Ciccone Theatre
The Feast of the Goat based on the novel by Mario Vargas Llosa is the story of General Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, “The Goat” himself, who subdued the Dominican Republic in a cruel dictatorship from 1930 to 1961. The story is told by Urania, a New York lawyer whose father was part of Trujillo's Ministry and who returns to the Dominican Republic after 35 years; by the band of conspirators who plan his assassination, and through the thoughts of the dictator himself. The Feast of the Goat won the Pen American Center's Nabokov Prize, among others. This play is presented in Spanish, with live English translation available via headphones. Bubbles are the partner of this amazingly effervescent entertainer. A combination of high-energy artistry and spectacular science mark the shows of Casey Carle, the world’s foremost Bubble-ologist. BubbleMania is loaded with visual comedy, quick wit, great swing music, and the untamed, often unbelievable qualities of spherical liquids. Pro Arte Chorale - Terpsichore Sunday, October 17, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. - Ciccone Theatre
The renowned Pro Arte Chorale will present "Terpsichore," featuring Randall Thompson’s Frostiana , Johannes Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder Waltzes, and PDQ Bach’s Liebeslieder Polkas. This wonderful musical program of poetry, passion and wit will be conducted by David Crone, with Janet Montgomery and Ron Levy accompanying. The Pro Arte Chorale, which recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary, has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and regularly at NJPAC, most recently performing Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Nights Dream. | |

The Pulitzer Prize winning play will have you laughing and crying at the same time. Set in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, we find the Magrath sisters playing out their family dramas as only Southern belles can. Lenny’s birthday wish is for her grandfather who has fallen into a coma; Babe shoots her husband because she can’t laugh at his jokes anymore; and Meg returns home after a failed attempt at stardom in Hollywood and focuses her attention on her old married beau. | |
