Right-to-Know

Bergen Community College is committed to providing you with a safe and secure campus.

As required by the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, each year the College publishes crime statistics for our campus. You may view these statistics online by following the link on the left.

Public Safety, located in Room L-154, is the primary department responsible for security on campus. The department is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and the campus is patrolled by Public Safety Officers on foot and in mobile car units at all times. These officers are not armed or empowered to make arrests but work closely with the Paramus and Bergen County police. Public Safety’s phone numbers are 201-447-7116 and 201-447-9200. You may report emergencies or crimes by simply dialing 6 (in-house) or 201-447-9200.

To help promote security you must have your ID card with you on campus and be ready to show your ID when requested by any Public Safety Officer. Employees with particular concerns or questions about safety should contact the Public Safety Office directly.

Each semester the Division of Student Services sponsors workshops on such topics as rape prevention, intervention/referral sources for criminal assault and domestic violence, traffic regulations, crime prevention, and anger management. Once a year, the Counseling Center and the Wellness Program sponsors the “Take Back the Night” Anti-Violence Program. Please check with the Office of Student Life (A115, 201-447-7215) for upcoming workshops. Employees are invited and encouraged to attend all programs and events.

You will find BCC’s policies and procedures relating to safety and well-being in the College Catalog. The college prohibits the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol on college property or as part of any of its activities. Every employee was provided a copy of BCC’s Alcohol and Drug Use Policy in fall 2002. Click here for BCC’s Alcohol and Drug Use Policy. The College sponsors an Employee Assistance Program for all full-time employees at 1-800-327-6608. Smoking is not allowed in any building on campus. Please refer to the BCC Smoking Policy . Weapons are prohibited on campus, and all forms of gambling are prohibited at BCC as well.

The college is committed to providing its employees with an environment free from sexual harassment or discrimination. Please refer to BCC’s Sexual Harassment Policy and our Violence Prevention and Response Procedures.

Employees are advised to familiarize themselves with all of Bergen Community College’s safety policies and procedures.
