Bergen Community College Counseling Center
Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)
FIT offers both associate (two-year) and bachelor (four-year) degrees. You may apply directly to a bachelor degree program only if you have an associate degree in an area comparable to the major you want at FIT.
BCC does not offer associate degrees in Fashion Merchandising or Advertising & Marketing Communications or most of the design programs offered at FIT, so you will probably have to apply to an associate degree program at FIT.
The following liberal arts courses are similar to what FIT students take, and are the safest for you to take at BCC:
- WRT 101 - English Composition I
- Either WRT 201-English Composition II OR SPE 111, Speech Communication
- One college-level course in math and one in science
- Two courses in Social Science: economics, political science, psychology or sociology
- One course in Art History: ART 102, ART 103, ART 104
- One 3-credit course in any liberal arts area - e.g. English, foreign language history, music, art history, math, science, social science
If you complete these courses at BCC you should be able to complete the associate degree at FIT in one year.
Apply to the associate degree program using the SUNY application.
The following programs are open for application directly to a Bachelor degree:
- Cosmetics & Fragrance Marketing
- Direct Marketing
- Home Products Development
- International Trade & Marketing
- Production Management: Apparel
- Product Management: Textiles
Apply to these bachelor degree programs by requesting the bachelor's degree application from the F.I.T. Admission Office (212-217-7675)
