Bergen Technology Moves Ahead

Spring 2007:  Wireless Expansion
This Spring, wireless coverage wil be added to Ender and West Hall.  The wireless coverage will complement coverage already available in the Vafeteria, Student Center, Library and TEC building as well as areas in front of the Pitkin Edcuation Center.

Spring 2007:  Lifecycle Replacement  
Beginning in late spring, OIT will begin upgrading approximately 200 administrative desktops across campus.  The new computer systems are more than two times faster than the system they replace and include larger monitors, expanded memory, CD and DVD writers.

Spring 2007 Free Time Labs
As part of the library renovation project, L222 and L309 will be phased in as free time labs.  When the library renovation is complete, we will be phasing out S346 as a free time lab, given the addition of these two rooms.  A new free time lab, with iMac computers running both MAC OS X and Windows XP will open in West Hall in W215.  This lab is now temporarily located in Ender Hall in E 175.

Faculty Staff Email Enhancements
OIT hasenhanced our web based faculty/staff email system by introducing forms based authentication (FBA).  FBA is a method of authentication that enhances security and performance for our Outlook Web Access (OWA) web based email system.  Please visit the Helpdesk FAQs section for more information.

Campus Migration to Exchange 2003
Beginning Monday, August 15, 2005, OIT will begin to migrate all College email mailboxes to our new Exchange 2003 Cluster.  The enhanced email platform should increase reliability, performance, and security of College email services while enabling continued improvements to spam and virus protection for the College community. Broadcast Email to Employee List
On those occasions when you need to send a broadcast email to all employees, please use the following link: http://www.bergen.edu/pages/1682.asp. The link will take you to a Public Relations web form that you can use to submit your request. You may wish to add the link to your favorites’ list for use in the future. While this web process will make it easier to send broadcast email, please note that the College’s Acceptable Use Policy and Administrative Guidelines strictly limit the use of broadcast email.

Bergen Community College's Corporate Directory
OIT has implemented Bergen Community College's Remote Access to the Corporate Directory.  Now when you call the school's main number you can find a Faculty or Staff member by pressing 1 for the College Directory.  At that point you will have to enter that person's last name. 

OIT Welcomes Webroot 
Webroot is managed centrally by the networking department, engine and definition updates and is controlled by the OIT departments Webroot server.  Webroot software will be remotely installed in strategic locations throughout the college.  We are also installing this software on individual systems on campus that may contain spyware, adware, viruses, or any other form of malware.  If you feel that your computer might be affected, please contact the Help Desk.

Windows Service Pack 2 Upgrade
