NJWA 2007 Conference

The New Jersey Writing Alliance hosted its eighth one-day conference, entitled “The Reading and Writing Connection” on May 21, 2007at Middlesex County College. The conference focused on pedagogical and institutional issues students face as they transition from reading and writing in high school to reading and writing in college.

A panel of six New Jersey schools—divided among county colleges and public and private four-year schools—will make presentations and then open up for discussion with conference goers.

Making It Matter in the Here and Now: Using the Power of Inquiry to Support Students' Reading and Writing

Michael W. Smith is a professor at Temple University’s College of Education. He joined the ranks of college teachers after 11 years of teaching high school English His recent books include “Reading Don't Fix No Chevys": Literacy in the Lives of Young Men; Going with the Flow: How to Engage Boys (and Girls) in Their Literacy Learning; and Getting It Right: Fresh Approaches to Teaching Grammar, Usage, and Correctness.
