NJWA 2006 Conference

The New Jersey Writing Alliance hosted its seventh one-day conference, this year entitled “We’re All in It Together: Solving Writing Problems across the High School-College Divide” on May 22, 2006 at Monmouth University.  The Alliance is interested in discussing--and bridging--the divide that too often separates college and high school writing. We envision our Spring 2006 conference as the continuation of an on-going conversation about what challenges our students face moving both between and within institutions—and how to facilitate those movements smoothly and successfully.  Our goal is to build stronger relationships between high schools and the New Jersey colleges and universities that their students will attend.

Norming Session: Let's Get Together to Talk About Student Writing
Instructors will read two or three student essays from various levels, give them a grade, and discuss their rationale for the grade. The purpose is to raise questions about the priorities we have for student writing at various levels of instructions and about how we establish standards for writing evaluation.
