How to Apply to the NJ STARS Program

We are excited that you have decided to apply to Bergen Community College as a
prospective NJ STARS student in the NJ STARS program.  In order to be officially certified as an NJ STARS student, please read the following information as well as the information in the table below, and complete all necessary steps.

  1. Around February each year, letters go out from HESSA to high school students who qualified for NJ STARS at the end of their junior year.  A short time later, Bergen Community College will also send those students a letter and include the HESAA Fact Sheet for 2015 High School Graduates. After receiving your letter please read the Fact Sheet carefully to make sure you meet the residency requirements.  You can access the Fact Sheet now by clicking on either the Eligibility Requirements and Coverage page or the NJ STARS Resources page on the purple sidebar on the left of this page.

  2. If you are interested in applying to Bergen Community College or have already applied, and you have determined that you meet the requirements outlined in the Fact Sheet, please email njstars@bergen.edu and let us know that you are interested in receiving an NJ STARS application/ contract.

  3. Once we hear from you, we will send you a letter with the NJ STARS application/contract.  Please read the contract carefully.  It contains important information including requirements that must be met to become a certified NJ STARS student, and also to remain in the program.

  4. If you did not receive a letter, please check with your high school guidance department to see if you ranked in the top 15% at the end of your junior year and if not, if you will rank in the top 15% of your senior year.  If you did rank in the top 15% at the end of either your junior or senior year, contact us at njstars@bergen.edu and let us know you are interested in receiving an NJ STARS application/contract.

  5. After graduating from high school, visiting Academic Advising, registering for your classes, and checking your portal account to make sure your Financial Aid requirements have been met (see table below) stop in A-118 or call 201-447-7211 to schedule an appointment with one of the NJ STARS Academic Counselors. Be sure to say that you are an NJ STARS student coming to see an NJ STARS counselor with a completed application/contract.   Please bring the completed application/contract with you to your appointment by July 24, 2015.

  6. Please have your high school send your final, official sealed High School transcript directly to:  Catherine Krostek, Enrollment Services Coordinator, Office of Recruitment & Admissions, 400 Paramus Road- Room A-118H, Paramus, NJ  07652.
