Types of Databases

The two types of databases that you will be using are: the library catalog and periodical databases.

Library Catalog

organizes all of the materials a library owns. These include books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos, sound recordings, etc.

The Library Catalog does not include articles.

Periodical Databases are used to locate articles on a topic.

Some periodical databases such as Academic Index are general or multidisciplinary.
ABI Inform

Many indexes specialize in a particular subject area, such as science (Science Direct), or business (ABI/Inform).
