Anticipated Tenure Track Faculty Openings Fall 2013
Teaching and learning are the central functions of Bergen Community College, and as such, its faculty plays a central role in supporting and fulfilling the College mission. The faculty has the primary responsibility for developing and carrying out effective instruction, counseling and library services. Since its founding in 1965, the College has been proud of its mix of tradition and innovation in the process of challenging students to raise questions, examine evidence, validate opinions, make decisions and communicate ideas effectively.
Successful candidates must be able to teach both day and evening classes including weekends, be committed to assessing student success and learning outcomes, assessing and developing new programs/curricula, demonstrating competence in instructional technology, especially on-line instruction and willing to accept assignments at any of our three locations (Paramus, Hackensack and Lyndhurst). All positions require excellent organizational and communication skills as well as demonstrated scholarship and professional involvement. Candidates invited for an interview will be required to do a teaching demonstration and present a teaching portfolio.

American Language Program (Job Code: F-ESL)
Required: Master’s Degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or related field plus a minimum of 15 credits in TESOL, Linguistics and/or Applied Linguistics. The equivalent of two years of full- time college teaching experience at all levels of ESL. Preferred: Doctorate in TESOL, Linguistics or Applied Linguistics, or related field plus a minimum of 15 credits in TESOL, Linguistics and/or Applied Linguistics. Please include in cover letter or curriculum vitae a list of graduate courses taken in TESOL as well as indicating ESL courses previously taught.
American Sign Language: (Job Code: F-ASL)
Required: Master’s Degree in Deaf Studies, Counseling and Rehabilitation for the Deaf, Teaching of the Deaf, or American Sign Language; at least two years of college level teaching experience; ASL proficiency at the advanced or higher level (SCPI scale); ASLTA certification. Preferred: Doctorate or graduate work beyond Masters; work with community college or nontraditional learners; experience with curriculum/program development; New Jersey teacher licensure a plus; documented involvement with the Deaf community a plus.
Aviation Technology (Job Code: F-AVIATION)
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation, Businesses or closely related field. FAA Certified Flight, Instrument and Ground Instruction (CFI II). Minimum of seven years of commercial, corporate or flight instruction experience. College teaching experience in Aviation Technology. Preferred: Experience using Frasca Flight simulators.
Biology (Job Code: F-BIO)
Required: Master’s Degree in Biology or closely related field. Minimum of two years of college teaching experience. Must be able to teach Organismal Biology (University Biology II) and /or Anatomy and Physiology. Must be available to teach both day and evening classes at both the Meadowlands and Paramus Campus. Preferred: PhD in Biology or Doctorate in closely related clinical field.
Computer Science: (Job Code: F-COMP SCIENCE)
Required: Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering; knowledge of C++ and Java languages; content knowledge for courses in Computer Organization, Database Systems, and Data Structures; familiarity with online learning platforms; two years of full-time teaching experience or equivalent part-time experience; ability to demonstrate effective uses of technology in teaching; must exhibit good communication skills orally and in writing. Preferred: Experience in curriculum development and revision; community college teaching experience; experience teaching a variety of courses in the discipline to both majors and non-majors, curriculum development experience.
Education: (Job Code: F-ED)
Required: Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Special Education or Master’s in Elementary Education or child related field with 18 – 24 credits in Early Childhood Ed., one year of college level teaching in Early Childhood Education. Preferred: Experience with P-3 certification; experience as a head teacher, master teacher or resource teacher; experience teaching Child Development Associate (CDA) coursework; graduate level supervisory experience of preservice teachers; knowledge of appropriate educational technology for young children, knowledge of Common Core standards and assessment for young children. Candidate will be required to travel to early childhood sites within a 15 mile radius.
English Composition and Literature (Job Code: F-COMP)
Required: Master's Degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric, or related field. At least two years experience teaching college-level English to diverse populations, preferably at a community college. Preferred: Ph.D in English or Composition/Rhetoric. Strong interest in theory and practice of teaching English Composition and experience with English language learners and students with special needs.
Information Technology: (Job Code: F-IT)
Required: Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related area plus at least one year professional IT experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related area plus at least three years professional IT experience. Proficiency in hardware, operating systems, and network administration on current platforms. One year college-level teaching experience.
Library/Instructional: (Job Code: F-LIB)
Required: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution: must have teaching experience. Will work as collaborative member of the Library Instruction team to teach, develop and assess library instruction as well as serve as liaison and advocate for library programs with College faculty and administration. Position will require 35 hours per week with some evening and weekend rotation. Preferred: Reference experience, familiarity with web-based course management systems and distance education technologies.
Mathematics (College Level) (Job Code: F-COLLEGE MATH)
Required: Master’s Degree in Mathematics or Statistics. Minimum of two years of college teaching experience. Must be able to teach the Calculus sequence and Statistics. Must be available to teach both day and evening classes. Preferred: Doctoral degree in Mathematics or Statistics.
Mathematics (Developmental Level) (Job Code: F-DEV MATH)
Required: Master’s Degree in Math Education, Mathematics or equivalent. Minimum of two years of teaching experience, Must be able to teach Basic Math and Algebra. Preferred: Experience teaching Developmental Mathematics in a self-paced format, experience in curriculum re-design and assessment.
Music (Job Code: F-MUSIC)
The Department of Performing Arts seeks a tenure-track music professor with a strong performance background to teach classes for both majors and non-majors. Required: Master’s degree in music (doctoral degree preferred) with graduate coursework in music theory; minimum 2 years college teaching experience with demonstrated success teaching music theory/musicianship and general education music courses. Additional experience in musical direction for musical theatre, music ensembles, music business, and/or music technology, a plus.

Nursing (Job Code: F-NUR)
Required: Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program, current valid New Jersey RN license, minimum 3 years of clinical experience as registered nurse, minimum 3 years teaching experience in an accredited Nursing program in the clinical setting, classroom and/or laboratory, experience utilizing technology and integrating new advances such as web enhanced courses and on-line course management systems to enhance student learning objectives and program assessment outcomes and evening availability is required. Preferred: Doctoral degree, national specialty certification in Mental Health Nursing. The successful candidate must have computer competency, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, successful experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to excellence in teaching and clinical skills.
Paramedic Science (Job Code: F-PAR)
Required: Master’s Degree in related field, active NJ Paramedic Certification, ACLS, PALS, PEPP Instructor Certification, National Association Emergency Medical Services Educator Instructor Certification, Clinical Simulation design and teaching experience, Paramedic Science curriculum development experience, minimum 5 years clinical paramedic experience, minimum 5 years teaching experience in a college based paramedic program and demonstrated paramedic academic program management. The successful candidate must have computer competency, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, successful experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to excellence in teaching and clinical skills.
Respiratory Care (Job Code: F-RSP)
Required: Master’s Degree in related field, must have a valid New Jersey State License and hold the NBRC RRT credential, minimum five years clinical experience in the field of respiratory care, minimum three years teaching experience respiratory care in the clinical setting, classroom and/or laboratory, must demonstrate experience utilizing technology and integrating new advances such as web enhanced courses and on-line course management systems to enhance student learning objectives and program assessment outcomes. The successful candidate must have computer competency, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, successful experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to excellence in teaching and clinical skills.
Spanish: (Job Code: F-SPANISH)
Required: Master’s Degree in Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, or Hispanic Linguistics. At least two years of teaching Spanish at the college level; can be combined with three plus years of teaching Spanish at the high school level. Applicants must be able to teach all levels of Spanish Language and a diverse student population. Applicants must be able to teach both day and evening classes and possibly Saturday classes. Native or near-native language proficiency. Preferred: Doctorate or graduate work beyond Master’s; experience with community college or non-traditional learners.
