Honors Program

Judith K. Winn School of Honors Mission Statement 
To provide select students with an enriched academic experience to foster intellectual growth and enhance their competitiveness in admissions to excellent universities. The program offers a challenging curriculum of general education classes taught in a small classroom setting by experienced faculty with a commitment to honors.

 What is the Judith K. Winn School of Honors?  

The Judith K. Winn School of Honors is an academic program offering courses for all students meeting ONE of the following criteria:
  • GPA of 3.4 or higher
  • Combined SAT score of 1700 or higher
  • A professor’s or a counselor’s recommendation
  • Accuplacer score of 275 or higher in English
The requirement for Mathematics Honors Course Registration 
  1. Either exemption from developmental math because SAT score of 530 or passing the placement test;
  2. A grade of B+ or better on MAT031/032/035 without repeated tries to replace E or F grades; and 
  3. Approval of the course instructor.

Honors Diploma Requirements
 
Students obtaining an AS associates in science or an AA associates in arts must successfully complete 18 credits in Honors courses. Students obtaining an AAS must take 12 hours of honors credit courses and maintain an overall GPA of 3.4. Students who complete the Honors Program graduate with an Honors degree in their major, receive an Honors Award, and a red and gold cord and tassel. 
 
Note: Students enrolled in certificate degree programs are ineligible to receive an honors diploma.

Honors Association
The Honors Association is a student club that supports the mission of the Honors Program. With weekly meetings and monthly special events, The Honors Association is an excellent way to network within your peer community.  For more information, contact Honors Association President, Khanh Ta: kta@me.bergen.edu

 

The Honors Program is administered by the Office of the Academic Vice-President. The Program is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council and its northeastern regional affiliate. It is also a sponsoring member of the annual Beacon Conference: www.beaconconference.org
