Admissions

I want to apply to Bergen Community College.  What is required to complete this process?


    · All students must fill out an application -- click online application to complete an application online.

  Non-degree seeking students

  • Students must be a high school graduate or over the age of 18.
  •  A Basic Skills Placement Test need not be completed before registering for classes.  However, it must be completed before registering for the 12th credit or before registering for an English or Mathematics course. 
  • Financial Aid is not available to non-degree seeking students.
  • Your WebAdvisor account will be created within 48 hours of your application submission.  You will receive an email with your account information.

 

Degree- Seeking students:

  • Students seeking admission to Allied Health or Nursing should refer to the chart http://www.bergen.edu/pages/1988.asp for minimum entrance requirements and application deadline dates.  Space in these programs is limited.
  •  Students seeking admission on an F-1 visa must apply no later than May 1 for fall admissions or October 15 for spring admissions.
  • Official High School transcripts are required for:  Allied Health, Nursing, Veterinary Technology, International F-1, those with foreign credentials and NJSTARS applicants
  • Students applying for AA and AS programs, home schooled applicants, and those applying for scholarships are strongly encouraged to submit official high school transcripts. 
  • Students with secondary school foreign credentials must submit officially translated copies. 
  •  Applicants who wish to transfer credits earned in institutions of higher learning outside of the U.S. should have their transcripts evaluated by World Education Service or any other official evaluation service.  All other transfer applicants should submit official transcripts to the Office of Admissions for evaluation.
  • Your WebAdvisor account will be created within 48 hours of your acceptance into a degree or certificate program.  You will receive an email with your account information.

Readmission: If you are a former student of Bergen Community College, you may only need to file a Readmit form. Do not apply on line if you have a record in our system.

Testing


Basic Skills Placement Test: Bergen Community College requires that all degree-seeking students and all non-degree seeking students take a Basic Skills Placement Test in reading, writing, computation, and algebra.

Who must take a Basic Skills Placement Test?

    · All students in a degree or certificate program are required to test before registering 
      for any courses.

    · All students who are not in a degree or certificate program but, who wish to register 
      for an English or mathematics course.

    · All students not in a degree or certificate program who have accumulated 11 
      attempted credits. Attempted credits are based on all courses for which one of the
      following grades have been issued: A, B+, B, C+, C, D, R, E, W, AU, Q, N, or 
      INC.

Levels of English Proficiency Test (LOEP): International students or students for whom English is not their native language may be required to take an English language proficiency test. This test measures proficiency in reading, writing and grammar. The results of this test may place students into the American Language Program (ALP). If you are placed into the ALP, you must complete this program before you may take any other courses. Once you have successfully completed the ALP, you must take the mathematics portion of the basic skills placement test.


Who must take the English Language Proficiency Test

    ·International students on I-20 visas.

    ·Non-native speakers of English who have completed fewer than three years in an 
     American high school or have been in the United States for fewer than eight years
     without formal English language training or have passed the GED examination in a 
     language other than English.


Please note: Either testing requirement may be waived based upon previous placement testing, SAT scores or college-level course work. Contact the Office of Testing and Services, S-127, 201-447-7203, or  http://www.bergen.edu/pages/715.asp for further information or to schedule an examination.

Academic Advising


Attend an Academic Advising and Registration Program. Faculty Advisors will present important information about Bergen and teach you how to build a schedule and prepare forms so you can register for classes. You must attend the session that coincides with your English Basic Skills Test placement result: go to www.bergen.edu/Academics/Advising for a list of dates. The program lasts 1 ½ - 2 hours; please bring your Basic Skills Test results with you. During the semester, if you have questions about courses or need information on college procedures and registration, you can talk to the faculty advisors in the Advising Center. You won?t need an appointment.


The Advising Center is located across from the Welcome Center in the Student Center, Room A-101.

Registration/Web Registration

  • New students (degree and non-degree seeking) please refer to the Admissions section above.    
  • Once you have been admitted, if you need assistance with course selection, stop in the Advising Center Rm, A101. 

    You can check for course availability through the WebAdvisor. -- an account is not necessary for this function.
  • To register via the web, you will need a username and password. If you do not know your username and password. Go online to: go.bergen.edu. Select Menu, and I am new to WebAdvisor. Please note: In order to have a WebAdvisor account generated, you must:
  • Have a record at the college (If you just applied, you will need to wait 48 hours before you can access your WebAdvisor Account).
  • Be accepted at BCC as a non-degree or degree seeking student. (If your admission status is still pending you will not have an account.)
  • Have a valid email address on file.

Please note: if you register online you will not receive a bill in the mail. You must get your balance due from the Account Summary Page after you register online.  Payment may be made online.

  • If you are not eligibile to register via WebAdvisor, bring your registration form, located in the back of the registration book, to the Registration Service Window Room A-129.  You will be issued a copy of your bill/schedule. 

 All students accepted to the college must submit a completed medical form before registering for a Wellness and Exercise Science Course (WEX).

Financial Aid


If you wish to receive financial aid,

    · You must be accepted in a degree or certificate program (see Admissions above).

    · You must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications
      for the academic year are available in the Financial Aid Office, Room A-123 or you 
      can apply on-line at the federal website.

    · You must also complete the BCC Financial Aid Certification form (available at the 
      Financial Aid Office or on-line) select Forms/BCC Certification.

    · You must submit a copy of your High School Diploma. This is in addition to any 
      documents that you have to file with the Admissions Office.

Bill Payment

· Your BCC schedule is also your bill. It states your balance and your due date.

· Your Bill is due within 3 business days of your date of registration.

· If you register online you will not receive a bill in the mail. You must get your balance
due from the Account Summary Page after you register online.

Bursar Office Location and Hours

The Bursar office is located in Room A-229 (2nd Floor Main Building): Telephone
(201) 447-7105; Fax (201) 447-3518. The hours are: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.


Payment Methods

    · All payments must be received by the due date. You may pay in full or enroll for the 
      deferred payment plan with AMS (Fall and Spring semesters only) at 800.635.0120

    · Payment can be made by Cash, Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard or Debit 
      card),Check or Money Order at the Bursar window.

    · If paying by check or money order, payment must be for the full amount and must 
      include the student's social security number or College id number.

    · After business hours, payment by check or money order can be dropped in the night 
      depository located near Bursar's office entrance.

    · Check or Money order is made payable to Bergen Community College and mailed
      to:Bursar's Office, Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ
      07652-1595.

Payment by Credit Card (Mail or Fax)

Students paying by credit card can download the make a payment form. The completed form can be faxed over to Bursar?s office at 201-447-3518

Stop Payment

Students who issue a Stop payment authorization against checks paid to the college for tuition, fees and other services are held responsible for such payment. A penalty fee for any such Stop payment authorization will also be assessed.

Insurance Medical Benefit Plan

Students who register for 12 credits or more will automatically be billed for medical insurance coverage. Any student who changes their status from full-time (12 credits or more) to part-time (less than 12 credits) by September 30, 2003 will not be billed for medical insurance coverage, and any fee collected will be refunded to the student. The plan is specifically designed for students and is offered at a reasonable premium. If you already have health/hospital insurance and do not wish this coverage, you must request a waiver of the insurance fee. A waiver form will be available at the time of registration. You must complete the form and provide your insurance carrier's name and address and your policy number. Upon receipt of the form, the fee will be waived and/or your payment refunded.

Part-time students (11 credits or less) may also purchase insurance. If you are interested, you may obtain the information brochure at the Bursar's Office (A-229) or the Health Services Office (B-101).

Refunds

   

REFUNDS:

 

For Fall and Spring semesters, the refund policy is as follows:

 

  • 100% until the end of the first week of classes
  • 50% between the start of the second week and the end of the second week of classes
  • 25% between the start of the third week and the end of the third week of classes
  • 0% after the end of the third week of classes

 

All refunds are issued to the student.  Payment by credit card may be refunded to the credit card upon presentation of the credit card.

 

For Summer Sessions, refer to the calendar in the registration book to see the refund dates.


ID Card and Parking Decal

ID cards and parking decals can be obtained at Public Safety (Room L 154) upon full payment of tuition and fees.
