FACULTY SENATE MINUTES
Dr. George Cronk, Chair of the Senate, called the
meeting to order at 3:45 p.m., following the Annual Senate Luncheon at Biagio’s
Restaurant on Paramus Road.
A moment of silence was observed for retired Professor
Ann Cunningham, who passed away on May 22. Ann was Vice Chairperson of the
Senate for many years.
I.
REVIEW OF MINUTES
The Minutes of the April 26, 2005, meeting
were accepted without objection.
II.
CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT:
A.
Dr. Cronk acknowledged the returning Senators and new Senators
to the 2005-2006 Senate. The returning Senators are: Dr. Ruth Feigenbaum, Dr.
Randolph Forsstrom, Professor Richard Comerford, Dr. John Georgiades, and
Professor Baila Zheutlin. New Senators are: Professor Maryellen McHale,
Professor Tim Foote, SGA President Grace Gomez, and SGA Vice President Sheryl
Pabatao.
B.
At the May 23 Senate Officers meeting with President
Winn, Acting Academic Vice President Tomko, and Executive Vice President
Laughlin:
1.
The 2005-2006 Tuesday meeting schedule was approved.
2.
The Student Evaluation Process was discussed and
reviewed. The Senate and administrative officers agreed that the policy and
process of faculty evaluation – including student evaluation of faculty – are
in need of updating and revision. It was generally agreed that some changes are
needed. The Senate and college administration will address the issue(s) during
the 2005-2006 academic year.
A motion was passed to move the Agenda so that the
election of officers could be held next.
III.

Dr. Cronk mentioned that the BCC Faculty
Constitution states that the Nominations and Elections Committee is to run all
faculty elections. Cooperation with the Committee is appreciated.
IV.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Learning Outcomes Assessment: Dr. Judi
Davis distributed and commented on a summary of the Ad Hoc Committee on Learning
Outcomes Assessment Plan, a copy of which is attached.
V.
OLD BUSINESS: Academic Calendars
Fall 2006: The
President did not approve the calendar which we submitted to her but has
submitted a revision of that calendar:
1.
Begin Fall 2006 Semester on
2.
Wednesday, November 2, 2006, will be a Monday
3. Fall 2006 Semester ends Friday,
4. There will be only 14 Saturdays, but minutes
will be extended in each class.
Senators suggested that emergency makeup
days be stated as January 2 and 3, 2007, on the Spring 2007 Academic Calendar.

VI.
NEW BUSINESS -- The new Senate Chairperson, Dr. Alan
Kaufman, presided:
A. A motion was made and seconded to send a
proposal of "A-" only to the Academic Standing Committee and report
back to the Senate no later than the November Senate meeting.
PASSED: 24 – 21 – 1
B. Dr. Kaufman re-appointed Professor Laurie
Hodge as the official Parliamentarian.
C. A motion was made and seconded to have a
Senate sub-committee consider the feasibility of introducing a final
examination week into each semester.
PASSED: 44 – 3 – 2
